Christmas and New Year 2011 are weeks away yet, but if you haven't yet
started thinking about next year's family vacation, this is a good time
to do so.
If you are investigating different destinations, you are already ahead
of the game. Either way, it will be worth your while to give serious
consideration to making Crete that destination for a 2011 summer
holiday.
Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and covers more than 3,000
square miles. So you can holiday in Crete several times and still stay
in an area that you have never visited before. Moreover, the island is
160 miles long and varies from 8 to 35 miles in width. No matter where
you stay, you are not far from ocean. Most people take their holidays
within walking distance of the endless sandy beaches.
Crete is, of course, steeped in a rich and varied culture and history.
With little effort on your part, some of that history and culture will
be absorbed during your holiday. It is a delightful bonus of spending
time on the island. But frankly speaking, most people who are
contemplating where to spend their holidays are primarily interested in
the hotels, the beaches and the food. For exactly those reasons, you
should take a close look at what's on offer for 2011 Crete holidays and
add it to your shortlist perhaps.
For those who act quickly, the entire range of hotels can be reserved at
good discounts. From hostels to high end hotels to villas, discounts
are available. Hostels, which appeal to young tourists and the more
adventurous older tourists, can be reserved with a 5 to 7 euros per
night discount. Most hotels in the moderate price range are offering 7
to 10 percent per night discounts. At some establishments, you can stay
seven nights for the price of six. The high end hotels are offering as
much as 12.5 percent discounts per night. With a little intensive
investigation, you may even find better deals than these mentioned.
Villas are also being offered at discounts of about 10 to 12 percent per
night. This is where you can see some really interesting savings,
particularly if you have a large group and are planning on sharing
expenses. Many five and six bedroom villas are available.
Villas are quite attractive because many of them are in prime locations -
close to towns and sandy beaches. They also feature lovely pools and
stunning patio views.
Virtually every town in which you find yourself, taverns and restaurants
abound with delicious local fare. Obviously there is a distinct
Mediterranean influence in most of the local cuisine. But like the rest
of the world, other cultural cuisines can be found as well.
If sunshiny, lazy days by the seashore appeals to you, give Crete a good
look and take advantage of the discounts that can be had. The only
recommendation is that you must act quickly to reserve your dream
holiday. As you get closer to the 2011 festive holiday, fewer discounts
will be available online and at your local travel agent.

Kids Show Off Their Karate Skills -- By Breaking Boards
Are you interested in helping your child gain more self-confidence?
How about teaching them the importance of goal setting skills & determination?
Local martial arts school owner Javier Lozano, Jr. created a great program designed to help children gain confidence, learn determination, display laser-like focus… all while having fun in Karate.
The Dojo of Karate & Fitness will be hosting their Annual Board Breaking Seminar this month on Friday, April 8th from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
Students of The Dojo of Karate will have an opportunity to break 10 boards with various techniques, such as hammer fist strikes, palm heel strikes, stomps, side kicks, and many more.
Last year, Sensei Lozano showed off the skill of breaking a board… over his head.
And, for the first time this year, Mr. Lozano will be allowing children in the community that are non-students of The Dojo of Karate to come by and break a board… and no experience is necessary.
Sound scary…?
It really isn’t.
Last year, The Dojo of Karate was featured on Fox 31 News: Good Day Colorado with Dan Daru. All of the students that participated in the live filming of the morning show broke boards for the very first time and were very successful in their attempts to break boards on live television. Many of these students had trained for less then 6 months, while others were nearing the 1 year mark.
And, though our school may not be featured on another news station this year, children interested in learning more about Karate will have a chance to actually test their skills against a board, while being coached by a 3rd degree black belt with over 20 years of training experience, and 17 plus years of teaching knowledge – Sensei Lozano.
“What I truly enjoy about the board breaking seminars we host at The Dojo of Karate is how much confidence our students begin to gain after they start breaking 1 or 2 boards” says Lozano. “They finally realize that it’s really not that bad, and all of a sudden they are trying to break 2 or 3 boards at a time. Their confidence begins to sore. And, if they fail, they continue to try. It’s just awesome to see our students display that focus and determination.”
The Dojo of Karate tries to host various events that gets the school together as a community. Several of the students and parents are friends outside of the dojo, and this allows them to interact with one another. Plus, it allows for the parents to actually come onto the floor and watch their child do some amazing stuff. A great way to simply capture the moment.
The Dojo of Karate has been offering martial arts training for kids, teens, and adults, women self-defense classes, and fitness boot camps since 2008.
Kids can start taking Karate as young as 4.5 years old, as they offer different programs for age groups.
The school is located in the Safeway Shopping Center on the northeast corner of 128th Avenue and Zuni Street, in Westminster/Broomfield.

Which is Better? Hybrid Irons or Regular Irons
TaylorMade Rescue was one of the first to utilize the hybrid style of
club-making. It was originally intended to 'rescue' the ball from a
tough spot. It was designed to give the ball maximum lift to get it out
of a constrained space. This concept is now in use by the modern hybrid
clubs. Ever since their use, people have been rapidly switching over to
the hybrid clubs. To know about the differences between the regular
irons and hybrid irons, you need to know the kinds of clubs out there
and where they are used.
Basic Information
Regular Irons
The regular irons are shorter than wood clubs. They are used for shots on the green and to hit angled shots to steer from trees and rise out of bunkers. Before the advent of the hybrid irons, regular irons were classified into cavity-back and muscle-back, depending on the club head.
Hybrid Irons
As per the CMC, hybrids are classified into two, as a utility club or as a hybrid iron-wood club. Hybrids are basically the new type of clubs, meant to take place of the regular iron clubs. They come in the same category as long irons and fairway woods. They can also replace the wedges.
Hybrid Irons Vs. Regular Irons
A hybrid iron is designed to near-perfection, meant to do what the regular clubs failed to do. Find out the areas where the hybrid fares better than the regular.
Structure
The friendliness of a golf club with the golfer depends on two things; the moment of inertia of the club and the ease with which the ball covers its distances.
- The long irons are the 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-Irons.
- The mid irons are the 5-, 6- and 7-Irons.
- Short irons are the 8- and 9-Irons.

Hybrid Irons Vs. Regular Irons
A hybrid iron is designed to near-perfection, meant to do what the regular clubs failed to do. Find out the areas where the hybrid fares better than the regular.
Structure
- The club shaft on the hybrid iron is shorter than that on the regular iron. This gives the user a lot more control over the club, giving you the ease to get the right swing.
- The club head is larger on a hybrid than a regular iron. This gives a larger area on the club head to hit the ball with, giving a more deeper contact during the shot. It also gives the user more room for error. The face of the club is also slightly more convex than a regular iron head.
- Club shafts are made of different materials. The hybrid club is made of graphite or a stainless steel alloy. Both give the shaft a useful amount of flex and smoothness. Great care is taken to ensure the right kind of shaft making.
- Club heads are sometimes made of the same material as the regular irons. They are either hollow steel or titanium cased. An alloy that gives the head more weight is mostly used. The weight of the club head in a hybrid is much more than a regular iron. This means two things; the weight on the end of the very flexible shaft gives the user immense control (comparatively) on the launch angle of the ball; the low center of gravity due to the extra weight further adds to a greater launch angle on the ball, as well as adding to the forgiveness.
The friendliness of a golf club with the golfer depends on two things; the moment of inertia of the club and the ease with which the ball covers its distances.
- The moment of inertia of the club decides the magnitude and cleanliness of impact of the head with the ball. The lower the moment of inertia of the club, the more crude the manner of it hitting the ball. This means there is a high chance of slicing the shot, making the ball go in a direction you didn't want it to. A higher moment of inertia means a good, clean and smooth hit on the ball, making it travel exactly the way you want it to.
- The sweetest part of using a hybrid is its ability to hit the ball farther than a regular iron. If the same golfer takes a shot using a regular iron and a hybrid iron of the same number, he/she will find that the ball will travel around 15 to 17 yards farther on the hybrid than on the regular. So you get a bonus 15 yards on the same level of skill and energy!
List of Basketball Equipment with Pictures
efore we pump up our boots and get ready for a fast-paced game of
basketball, let us know a little bit about the history of basketball.
Basketball was the brainchild of James Naismith. He was born in Almonte,
Ontario and was a Canadian physical education instructor. When Naismith
was an instructor at the Springfield College (Massachusetts), with the
help of American physical education specialist, he invented the game
basketball in 1891. Over the century, rules of basketball have undergone
a lot of change. Today, high school, college and professional
basketball, all are played in a similar fashion. The difference lies
between the length and the range of basic skills. There are five players
in each team and they play the game with a single ball. The aim is to
shoot the maximum number of baskets in the hoop and win the game. We
shall have a look at the list of basketball equipment with pictures in the following paragraphs and know the requirements to play this game better.

Who Will Win the 2011 US Open?
Let's face it. Novak Djokovic has had a dream 2011 so far, and is by far
the most likely player to go home with the 2011 US Open title. Losing
just two matches till date this year, one in a semi-final to Roger
Federer, and the other in a final due to injury, Djokovic has had a near
perfect year. And it's not over yet. With the US Open and the ATP World
Tour Finals to play for, not to mention the Masters events, Djokovic
has a lot to play for, in spite of his number 1 ranking not being at any
immediate risk.
Finally achieving his dream of becoming the top ranked player in the sport, Novak Djokovic is just starting to show his dominance on the court. Previously labeled as a five-set quitter, and as someone who withdrew from way too many matches when on the losing side, the Novak we know has come a long way indeed. Reminding me of the once unconquerable Nadal, today's Djokovic seems to have the strength and determination to eclipse all the others before him. With 9 titles under his belt already, he is surely on the way, and in what fashion. Holding the Australian Open and the Wimbledon titles already this year, Djokovic is looking to do what Nadal and Federer have been doing for the past few years, holding 3 of the four grand slam titles in a year. Surprisingly, that should have already happened, save for an {unfortunate?} loss to Roger Federer in the French Open semifinals. However, from what can be seen on court, the US Open already looks to be in the Djoker's pocket. Or is it...
Can greats like Nadal and Federer actually be written off? While Nadal and Federer both lost early in both the warm up tournaments, more interesting was the fact that Novak Djokovic withdrew, that's right withdrew, from the FINALS of the Cincinnati Open, citing a shoulder injury. What needs to be asked, of course, is how serious the injury is. No doubt Nadal and Federer are rusty, but they have always proved that they have it in them when it comes to playing the Grand Slams. Federer has 16 titles, and Nadal is fast catching up. Will Novak Djokovic, the new star on the block, be able to retain the form that saw him demolish, no, annihilate, the competition thus far? Or will the shoulder injury be more telling and saddle him with even more pressure to keep his amazing golden year going? Remember, Novak himself claimed that the injury was present for a few weeks, and was caused due to over-activity, and the grueling tennis season. Of course, the fact that he has lost just 2 matches so far means that he has played more [reaching the final and winning in most tournaments] than the average player on the tour, and is consequently more tired and fatigued. But the most important point to take note of is the fact that the injury reached an extent to where he had to withdraw from a FINAL, that too a mere 8 days before one of the most demanding Grand Slams of the year. Are these 8 days enough for him to recover back to the form that we have been seeing from him since December last year? Or are we going to see a 75% recovered Djokovic struggling at nearly the end of the season. For if that is the case, then it will be a shame, because no one deserves the US Open title more than Novak Djokovic.
So that brings us to the question that is on everyone's mind, as to who will win the 2011 US Open? Will the brilliance of Roger Federer, a 5-time champion, or the tenacity and doggedness of Rafael Nadal, the defending champion, make a difference in the 2011 US Open outcome. Or will the Djoker have the last laugh after all...

US Open 2011 Dates
For tennis fans, the month of August couldn't be more exciting. This is
because the final Grand Slam of the year, the US Open takes place in the
last week of August. After a break of nearly 2 months, the top players
in the world get ready to face off for the final Grand Slam of the year.
With 3 of the 4 Grand Slams already done and dusted, the US Open is a
final chance for those looking to win a Grand Slam in this calendar
year.
When is the US Open 2011?
The US Open, being the last Grand Slam of the year, is played in late August, usually in the last week of the month. In 2011, the US Open will be played from the 29th of August to the 11th of September at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City. Preceded by the prestigious Wimbledon, the US Open is the last of the four Grand Slam events in the calendar year, with the ATP World Tour Finals being the only other notable tournament following it. Due to it being late in the year, the US Open is often considered to be the most demanding Grand Slam of them all, but this is probably due to the fact that players have played the entire season and are obviously a little tired. Perhaps due to this fact, the US Open remains the only Grand Slam to feature tie-breaks even in the final set of the match [3rd set for women's, and 5th set for men's], thereby shortening some matches considerably.
Who Won the 2010 US Open?
The 2010 US Open was a keenly contested affair, and at the end of 2 weeks of intense tennis, it was Rafael Nadal who took home the title, defeating Novak Djokovic in the finals of the men's event, while it was Kim Clijsters who won the women's event, defeating Vera Zvonareva in an anti-climatic final. In the men's doubles, the Bryan brothers, Mike and Bob, took the title, defeating Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi in a keenly contested final, while in the women's doubles, it was Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova who defeated Liezel Huber and Nadia Petrova to take home the title. Liezel Huber and Bob Bryan added another title to their kitty when they defeated Květa Peschke and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi to take home the mixed doubles title as well.
Who Will Win the 2011 US Open?
Though Rafael Nadal is the defending champion at the US Open, the 2011 title might well go to another player, and that is none other than Novak Djokovic. Playing an incredible season so far, the Serb has lost just two matches this year, one to Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the French Open, and the other to Andy Murray in the finals of the Cincinnati Open, where he withdrew due to a shoulder injury. Winning the Australian Open and the Wimbledon titles will give him the confidence he needs, and this should be the year where he wins his first US Open title. However, Nadal, Federer, Murray, and the others, cannot be counted out, and the road to victory and the championship will definitely not be a piece of cake for the Serbian.
Who will win the 2011 US Open in the women's event is slightly more difficult to predict, as the defending champion Kim Clijsters will unfortunately not be defending her title due to a stomach injury, leaving the field for the women wide open. Serena Williams, making a comeback post injury, won both the warm-up tournaments, and is looking like a good contender for the title. The women's top seed, Caroline Wozniacki, is also looking good, and 2011 might just be the year where she gets her maiden major title. Let's also not forget the likes of Vera Zvonareva, Maria Sharapova and Francesca Schiavone, who are all capable of taking home the trophy.
So lots of action coming from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in the next two weeks, and it will be interesting to see how the 2011 US Open shapes up. To say the least, it should be an intense two weeks of top class tennis.
